Museum of Brisbane (MoB) has ventured to the multicultural heart and “high street” atmosphere of Moorooka’s shopping strip along Beaudesert Road for its latest Story Hall exhibition showing until 20 April 2009.

Moorooka Encounters is an exhibition comprised of photographs and story panels hanging in the foyer of City Hall revealing a diverse cross-section of personalities and characteristics that make Moorooka unique to Brisbane.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman says Moorooka is one of the last remaining traditional shopping areas left in Brisbane.

“This exhibition shares the unique and personal stories of Moorooka business owners and employees including their hopes for their businesses and their reflections about Moorooka,” Cr Newman said.

Moorooka identities whose stories are featured in the exhibition include Italian Mario Grimaldi of Piccolino’s, Ethiopian Tesfaye Tefera who opened Made in Africa in 1992, Mu’ooz Eritrean Restaurant and Catering Business manager, Saba Abraham and Sudanese born Alsiddig AA. (Adam) Mohammed who runs Umdorman Café and Jeff Ballment from the Karpaty Ukranian Credit Union.

Moorooka Encounters was curated by Zenovia Pappas and photographer Russell Shakespeare.

Other exhibitions currently showing at MoB include:
