Chances are that if you make a new year’s resolution this year you’ll most likely have broken it before the end of January.

Statistics show over 90% of New Year’s resolutions won’t be kept for a variety of different reasons.

The most common resolutions made include to exercise more and be healthier, to develop better eating habits, give up smoking and to be conscientious about work or school.

Julie Gilbert of Solutions Food Management knows how important a healthy diet is and has a lot of people coming to her confused about what they should be eating.

“Snack foods are always hard for people watching what they eat, you need to be able to treat yourself once in a while but there also needs to be some sort of guide. Dieticians are focusing on a 100 calorie portion size to help people analyse their snack foods and make sure they stay on track and don’t over indulge,” Julie said.

One such snack food Julie has been looking at very closely is Yogen Fruz soft serve frozen yogurt which falls perfectly into the 100 calorie or less category.

“Yogen Fruz is a low kilojoule snack, which is perfect for people trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy waistline,” said Julie.

Julie said Yogen Fruz frozen yogurt is great as a snack or even a healthy meal and not only because of its low calories but it has the added benefit of probiotic power.

“Yogen Fruz not only has the natural probiotics found in yogurt but it has the extra benefit of added probiotics which is of paramount importance for digestive health,” said Julie.

Probiotics contain live cultures which promote the growth of “good” bacteria in the human gut which are hugely beneficial for digestive health and overall wellbeing.

“Many factors such as stress, the contraceptive pill, poor food choices, alcohol etc, can decrease good bacteria, so adding probiotics to your diet are a great way to improve the gut flora,” said Julie.

Most of us will be guilt of having indulged in one too many festive drinks over the silly season and Julie advised probiotics can help repair some of the damage caused by alcohol.

“Excessive alcohol consumption may cause liver damage, and having a good dose of probiotics may help to prevent this type of vital organ damage,” Julie advised.

“As well as the naturally occurring probiotics in their fro-yo, Yogen Fruz add extra probiotic bacteria for an additional boost – each product contains billions of cultures including the F19 strain (L. Paracase), Bulgaricus and S. Thermophilus,” Julie said.

So why not start the new year off with a healthy frozen treat that good for you and your waistline. Yogen fruz is not only a yummy frozen snack but it’s a great way to start your detox, it packs a probiotic punch to repair the damage of the silly season and set you straight for 2009!
